Rugby VII: the French military against their foreign rivals

the essential
If the French military team has been in the habit of playing VII for a decade, it has never met its international rivals.

In XV rugby, clashes between foreign military forces are quite frequent. The France -England shocks are regular in particular. But in VII, this World Cup in Agen will be a premiere. Before it rises into the unknown, the French are therefore on their guard.

“For the past six years, we have integrated the Elite circuit set up by the Fédération française de rugby”, explained manager Benoît Picard. Its players are therefore guided by the demands and particularities of the “Seven”. In 2021, they finished 3rd in this competition which brings together the best French teams. “We are working to progress and reach first place”

This June, the French military is in full swing in this competition. They have two tournaments in Tours and Béziers. The team is rolling, in shape, peaufing its automatisms. On Thursday, a training is scheduled on the terrain of Enap. Friday morning, on the lawn of Armandie.

The Anglo-Saxons will be at the meeting

Only, the French military never played VII against their British, Australian, Spanish, Georgian, etc. counterparts. A jump into the unknown? Not at all. The tricolor staff was informed.
“In the XV, we have the habit of confronting the English,” says Benoît Picard. There, they regrouped into the “UK Force” for the first time in VII. Their team, as well as that of the Australian military, have just competed in a Sevens tournament in Bournemouth. In one observé deux équipes de gros niveau.

It is also known that the Spaniards have regrouped for a month to prepare for this competition. And in this form of rugby, if basically there are athletes, in a month, a lambda team can go through a resounding formation. The French soldiers, who are running at XV between the National and the federal divisions, are therefore on guard before the start of the competition. The Anglo-Saxon nations, culturally masters of rugby, will be a priori the most dangerous. But in VII, we know it well, everything goes very fast…
