The girls of the Lons Section Paloise had one last chance to stay in Elite 1 during a barrage against the Norman Valkyries. They seized it, in a manner (0-33) in Évreux.
The Lions had missed the first round of their Elite 1 retention quest, in a second round of playdown loss to Lille (18-5). But they did not miss the second opportunity. Thanks to three tries from Magali Ollier, Lisa Cazaux and Alexia Cerenys, the Vertes and Blanches were 19-0 at the break. They did not give up the rest afterwards. Blessed in recent weeks, the former international pillar Lise Arricastre has crossed the opposite line a few days after announcing its international retirement. Laetitia Royer gave more light to the score at the end of the match (33-0).
At the end of a galley season marked by the start of the pair of Liébaut – Vitalla coaches and Elodie Poublan’s responsibility prize, the Lons Section Paloise kept the essentials facing the Normandy Valkyries, who however arrived full of confidence after their title of Elite 2 champions, logical crowning of a season during which they have not lost a single of their 19 matches.
As for the Lions, in a crisis of results for several weeks, they have had a hard time. They will always be in the elite of French rugby in the next practice.
