Act: What is the situation of handball in Normandy?

Nicolas Marais: Ang handball, like all sports disciplines, has been through the storm of a health crisis for two years. During the year 2020-2021, the new retombés très bas en termes de licenciés, along with 20 300 practitioners in Normandie, and all of them 30 000 avant le Covid-19. I have to congratulate all the work of the clubs, the departmental committees, because handball has improved its footing. We arrive, at the end of this season, at 26,680 licensees. It remains to be done, but we will return the foot little by little. It did not work. This winter was complicated with the resumption of the crisis, but the competitions were maintained, which was fundamental to our discipline, as for sport in general. At the territorial level, the League and the committees have put in place a real plan to accompany our clubs. Financial support through a reduction in license fees, free commitments, provision of certain fees to allow clubs to restart properly.

“Fabulous course, with an extraordinary atmosphere”

How would you describe the season of JS Cherbourg?

NM: Sa peut se satisfaire de l’excellente saison de la JSC, you should rate access to Starligue in the finale face à Sélestat. Cherbourg carried out a fabulous course, with an extraordinary atmosphere in Chantereyne. Always in respect of the adversary, arbitrators. This is also handball: these values of respect, of solidarity. The course of the JSC today is an engine for all Norman handball. Even clubs around Rouen are attracted because it goes to Cherbourg and supports them. Cherbourg benefits from real support throughout Normandy, well beyond the Cotentin. At present, the most advanced project to advance to the first division is the JSC. You don’t have to forgive. The only thing we miss in Normandy is a team in the first division, which will be the locomotive office for the other clubs.

Comment continue the development of handball in Normandie?

NM: We work on the development of many practices. Like baby handball (from 3 to 5 years old), handfit, and handensemble (practice aimed at developing handball for people with disabilities). We are also very involved in the practice of beach handball, which attracts many young people, girls and boys. The souhaite organizer who approached the region of competition throughout Collignon, in Tourlaville, from Granville, and in Calvados and the Seine-Maritime, afin de permettre de maintenir une activité handballistique pendant sa période estivale.
