What sounds like a big blow to HC Bienne is no more. Finnish goalkeeper Jussi Olkinuora, world champion with his selection in May, signed a one -year two -way contract with the Detroit Red Wings (NHL).

The former Metallurg Magnitogorsk player in KHL (31) had committed to a season with HCB before the World Cup. His performances in this tournament (8 wins, 94.83% of stops) opened the doors of the NHL, for which he has an exit clause.

It remains to be seen how the Southland club will return. For memory, his No. 1 Swiss guard, Joren van Pottelberghe, was operated on following a serious injury to a knee (crossed ligament). An unavailability of 8 to 9 months had been announced at the end of the 2021-2022 season.
