A new president, Thomas Gineysat the command of the yellow and blue house since february 2022 today a new coach, Guillaume Saurina arrived freshly from Nantes (Neptunes), the PCHB continues his mue in anticipation of next season. The new coach pontellois explains to us his course, his motivations and his ambitions with Pontault.

Can you present?

Guillaume Saurina: I am forty years old, married to a former professional player, Camille Ayglon Saurina and father of 2 children, Milo 8 years old and Louise 6 months. I am a former pro player passed by clubs in Villeurbanne, Nimes, Chambéry, Bucharest and Nantes, where I ended my career at 36 years, the year I reached the Champions League final with HBC , final lost against Montpellier in 2018. In parallel with my playing career, I passed my coaching degrees and very quickly I started at Nîmes du baby-hand at the training pole. I attended the training center in Nantes. A pigeon in Bucharest when the coach fell ill and then the opportunity to take the reins of the Nantes Atlantique Handball women’s team was presented. Take the challenge and for this 1st experience during the 2020-2021 season, we will go to the final of the French Cup and win the European Cup. The second year, more complicated, but still in the locker room, but the management decides to call another coach.

Comment did this signature or PCHB expire?

Not returning to the plans of the Neptunes of Nantes, the club’s new name, I was quite disappointed and surprised to end this adventure thus. But the coach post is very exposed. As long as one has not turned, one cannot really consider oneself as a coach, that is what happened. Suddenly, on the market, I quickly came into contact with the Pontault club. I was able to free myself to come and discuss with the management of the club, with Thomas Gineys, the president. The project I presented to them convinced them, but my way of working seemed to seduce them as well. There was a lot of exchange, and to conclude, the club decided to trust me for the post in the next two seasons. I was able to help with the Proligue dams, meet some players and even if my contract hadn’t started, I was gradually returning to my duties.

I will support what has been done

Pontault will definitely be your first high -level experience at the head of a male executive…

Yes and no, because when I trained the youth of the training center, many were on the national team or played on professional teams. In Bucharest, we were at a high level. After all, we talk about handball, the girls of Nantes are very good performers at the highest level. This is not something that scares me. The hand, it’s my DNA and there, we speak the same language. I do not get into the unknown and my experience will be very useful in this beautiful challenge.

What are your goals for the 2022-2023 season?

There are a lot of things to prepare for when we find a new club, a new staff, a new effective. The enormous work done by Cherif Hamani over the past 4 years favors my arrival at this position. Before talking about objectives, I will largely support myself on everything that has been done, adding my personal touch. This is really an plus for me that facilitates my integration. There are things to look forward to, a rough preparation to wrap up, training to prepare, interviewers to finish, finish the recruitment and start with a staff. I discover a new universe and new people. There is a regular exchange with Cherif in such a way that the transfer of power is the most successful possible. The goal is to continue on what is working well and what has marketed very well to keep the club at the highest level of French handball. Far from me the idea of going all out, but I have my word to say for the good of the team.

Pontault is a historic club

What do you think of the Proligue Championship?

This is a championship that I know very well. I’ve been there for several seasons. Over 17 years of pro career, I had to play 5 seasons in Proligue, with two mounts. So, I understand the necessity of this level and the difficulty of figuring out well. The Pontault club is a historical club of French handball, as a result, it must continue to be at the top of the Proligue table to still compete in the final phases and consider an accession to Starligue. This march remains the hardest to climb, but we will still prepare with seriousness and ambition.
