French Caroline Garcia and Alizé Cornet will face off on Friday in the semi-finals of the WTA grass tournament in Bad Homburg.
Garcia, 75th world player, qualifies for the first Thursday by beating German Sabine Lisicki, 804th in the world, 6-3, 7-6 (9/7), before Cornet (44th) looks like another German, Angelique Kerber (18th), former world No. 1 and title holder, beat 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.
In Germany, Garcia is equal to Oores and already has her best performance this season during which she reached a semi-final in Lyon last February.
Unfortunate Wimbledon finalist in 2013 against Frenchman Marion Bartoli, Lisicki, 32, had received an invitation from organizers to compete in the German tournament.
In the other two quarters of the final, Russia’s Daria Katsakina, head of Series No. 1, was surprised by Canadian Bianca Andreescu, crowned at the 2019 US Open, who prevailed 6-4, 6-1 , thanks to Roumaine Simona Halep, won at Roland-Garros in 2018 and at Wimbledon in 2019, and facilitated dominé l’Américaine Amanda Anisimova, yet grand espoir du circuit WTA, 6-2, 6-1.
