20 LCH trainers are part of the staff of the next camps and events
CALGARY, Alb. – Hockey Canada will benefit from a group of 20 Canadian Hockey League (LCH) coaches pour to guide Canada’s national under-18 men’s team to the 2022 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup and the national under-17 program years of Canada during the season 2022-2023.
For those under 18, Stéphane Julien (Shawinigan, Qc/Sherbrooke, LHJMQ) will be the head coach. Julien is the head coach of Phoenix de Sherbrooke of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (LHJMQ) since 2016 and he is also the general manager of the club for two seasons. Letang has recently finished his first season as head coach of the Sting de Sarnia of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Before joining Sting, he spent five seasons with OHL’s Attack d’Owen Sound as assistant coach (2016-2019) and head coach (2019-2020). Letang won a gold medal as an assistant coach with the Canadian junior national team or the IIHF Junior World Championship 2020.
Mallette was the head coach of the Kelowna Rockets in the last two campaigns (2020-2022). In addition, he spent six seasons (2014-2020) as the team’s assistant coach. He had been appointed assistant coach of Team Canada Black in view of the 2020 Under-17 Hockey World Challenge, which was canceled due to the COVID-19. The Canadian national men’s under-18 team will meet in Calgary for a selection camp that will take place from July 20 to 23 at the Markin MacPhail Center of the Canadian Olympic Park, in view of the 2022 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup, presented by RAM. O’Leary has held various positions with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL since 2012, including head coach at different times in the last three seasons (2019-2022). Richardson was the head coach of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the LHJMQ during the last four seasons (2018-2022) at the Victoriaville Tigers from 2014 to 2016. He was also a coach for Blacks in the Challenge mondial de hockey des moins on 17 and on November 2014.
Walters recently ended his first season as head coach of the OHL’s Owen Sound Attack after holding the same position with the OHL’s Oshawa Generals during three campaigns (2018-2021). At the international level, he won a silver medal in the role of assistant coach with Team Canada East at the 2011 Junior World Challenge and was the head coach of Team Canada East at the 2012 Junior World Challenge.
Mallette was at the helm of the Victoriaville Tigers in the last two seasons (2020-2022) and an assistant coach of the team for three campaigns (2017-2020). He was also an assistant coach for Team Canada Rouges in the 2021 Capital Challenge.

Previously, he was an assistant coach for the Swift Current Broncos of the WHL (2015-2018) and the Medicine Hat Tigers (2018-2020). In the 2012 and 2013 editions of the Junior World Challenge A, he also held a joint position, winning silver and bronze, respectively.
Steadman recently finished his sixth season as assistant coach for the OHL Knights of London, having held that position since the 2014-2015 campaign. He will make his debut as a coach on the international stage.
Wiseman was an associate coach of the OHL Storm of Guelph during the last three seasons (2019-2022) and an assistant coach of the sa 2018-2019 team.
