after cutting, place in recruitment

AMQUI

The Assaut M18 team postponed the provincial school hockey championship, LHPS section, this year.

If the clubs in Assaut d’Amqui had a brilliant school hockey season, the time has come to rebuild the troops, recruiting not only new players, but also new retired families, a real challenge for ‘ organization.

Reputable for former student-athletes in its five sports disciplines, the sports-studies program of Armand-Saint-Onge Secondary School (Assaut) is gaining more and more notoriety at the provincial level. Last spring, two Assaut hockey teams, the M18 and M15, were pictured in the grand final of the Provincial School Hockey Championship.

The Under -18 (M18) team is also the division champion of the Quebec Student Sports Network (RSEQ), LHPS section. An exploit that will certainly not hold the interest of young hockey players in the region to join the ranks of Assaut. In addition, Amqui High School is the only institution east of Rimouski to offer a school hockey program from RSEQ. Also recall that Assaut hockey clubs were able to count on the expertise of a former professional hockey player over the course of last season. Jordan Caron offers weekly individual development and perfection clinics, a handshake that has visibly borne fruit this year.

“I have accompanied them as a coach since their beginning in high school. Sa isang often had difficult seasons, but to end the season with a cut, one could not ask for better. Especially for some, it was their last year in Assaut, ”said M18 coach Cedric Hautcoeur, taking a record of last season.

A year under the sign of reconstruction

Since 2022 marks the end of the secondary course for several Assaut student-athletes, the coming months will be dedicated to reconstruction. Hockey teams from the East of the province will also gather on August 26, 27 and 28 for the training camp in view of the 2022-2023 season. But the challenge does not stop at recruiting new players. Cedric Hautcoeur admits that the nerve of the war consists of finding new families to accommodate the students-ahlètes from abroad, from the Gaspésie among others.

“We are really in recruitment mode, we still have several pension families to find,” he said. “For amateurs, it’s fun to follow their little retired guys. There is a remuneration for these families, ”he continued, inviting hockey fans to show up. In this sense, an information meeting will take place this Wednesday, June 15, 6 pm, at the library of Amqui High School.
